The first cold snap of November is when an old furnace shows its age. Here’s what furnace replacement costs in Paris and Henry County, the signs it’s time, and how to choose between an 80% and a 95% efficient furnace.
How Much Does Furnace Replacement Cost in Paris, TN?
A new gas furnace usually costs between $3,800 and $12,000 installed, according to Carrier’s national cost guide. The range is wide because two things set the price: the furnace you choose and the work needed around it. A single-stage, 80% efficient furnace going into the same spot on the same venting and ductwork lands near the low end. A 95%-plus modulating furnace that needs new venting, duct changes, or gas and electrical work lands near the top, and a complicated job can run past it. These are national planning figures, not Culley’s prices. We give free in-home estimates, and the written quote is the number to plan around.
| What Changes the Price | Toward the Low End | Toward the High End |
|---|---|---|
| Efficiency | 80% AFUE | 95% AFUE and up |
| Burner staging | Single-stage | Two-stage or modulating |
| Venting | Reuses the existing flue | New vent pipe or a flue liner |
| Ductwork | Fits the existing plenum and ducts | Needs transitions or duct changes |
When Is It Time to Replace Your Furnace?
Start pricing a replacement when your gas furnace is past 15 years old and needs a major repair, when it needs its second significant repair in a few winters, or when an older unit has a cracked heat exchanger. A well-maintained gas furnace usually lasts 15 years or more, so age alone isn’t a reason to replace one that still heats the house evenly. If you’re on the fence, our furnace repair guide covers whether a repair still makes sense, including the $5,000 rule for weighing a repair bill against the furnace’s age.
Other signs that point toward replacement:
- Some rooms stay cold even after the system has been serviced
- The gas bill keeps climbing while your habits stay the same
- A cracked heat exchanger, which can let carbon monoxide into the house, so the furnace shouldn’t run
Should You Choose an 80% or 95% Efficient Furnace?
A 95% furnace costs more up front and uses less gas, so it pays off best in a home that runs the heat all winter and has an easy route for its venting. AFUE (annual fuel utilization efficiency) is the share of the fuel a furnace turns into heat for your home. An 80% furnace turns about 80 cents of every gas dollar into heat and sends the rest up the flue. A 95% furnace adds a second heat exchanger that pulls heat out of the exhaust first. That step condenses water out of the exhaust, so a high-efficiency furnace needs a condensate drain and its own plastic vent pipe, usually run out a side wall.
An 80% furnace can be the practical pick when:
- The furnace sits in a crawlspace or attic, where a condensate line could freeze or a new vent is hard to route
- The home uses little heat, so the gas savings take years to cover the higher price
Check the flue too. If a gas water heater shares the old furnace’s flue, switching to a side-wall vent leaves the water heater alone on a flue sized for two, and that flue may need a liner. We check for it during the estimate.
How Do You Pay for a New Furnace in 2026?
A furnace installed in 2026 doesn’t qualify for a federal tax credit, so the choice is cash or financing. The Section 25C energy efficiency credit, which used to cover high-efficiency furnaces, ended for equipment placed in service after December 31, 2025. That applies at any efficiency level, even when the contract was signed in 2025. Culley offers 0% financing with approved credit through Wells Fargo. There’s no interest if you pay the balance in full within the promotional period with regular monthly payments.
What Happens When Culley Replaces Your Furnace?
Culley Mechanical Services replaces furnaces across Paris and Henry County, starting with a free in-home estimate. We size the new furnace to your home’s heating load rather than copying the old unit’s label, because an oversized furnace short-cycles and heats unevenly. During the estimate we also check the venting, the gas line, the ductwork and the air conditioner coil that sits on top of the furnace, so the quote covers the whole job. When the new furnace doesn’t line up with your existing plenum, we build the transition in our own sheet metal shop. Our technicians are factory-trained and NATE certified, we’re a Carrier Factory Authorized Dealer, and new systems come with a free 5-year labor warranty.
Here’s how one customer described her replacement in a Google review in April 2026:
“I needed to have my unit replaced this year after 20 plus years. The replacement was quick and convenient around my schedule. The technician team is polite and respectful.” (Susan T.)
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I replace the furnace and keep my air conditioner?
Often, yes. The furnace blower moves the air for your AC too, and the indoor coil sits on the furnace, so the new furnace has to match your AC’s size and coil. If the air conditioner is more than 10 years old, price both together. Replacing them at the same time avoids a second installation later.
How fast can Culley replace a furnace that quit in the middle of winter?
Culley Mechanical Services answers no-heat calls 24/7, and a replacement depends on getting the right unit in. During a winter storm in early 2026, one customer’s review says our crew arrived within an hour, loaned space heaters, and had a new system installed within 48 hours. Replacing an aging furnace in the fall, before it fails, lets you choose the equipment without the pressure.
Is a bigger furnace better for an older house?
No. A furnace sized larger than the house needs heats in short bursts, shuts off before the far rooms warm up, and wears faster from constant starts. Drafty older homes in Paris need an accurate heating-load calculation, not a bigger unit. Sealing ducts or adding insulation can sometimes let a smaller furnace do the job.
